Comments: The Stewart Father s Day Powwow Committee in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Stewart Alumni is hosting the 2010 Stewart Father s Day Powwow at the former Stewart Indian School in Carson City, June 18-20, 2010.  The Stewart Indian School was the only off-reservation boarding school in Nevada for American Indian students over a 90-year span. This annual powwow draws a number of quality American Indian artisans, and is also a time for alumni, former employees and their families and friends to gather at the former campus. Additionally, this fundraising event is part of an effort to establish the Stewart Indian Cultural Center to preserve the history and memorabilia of the former school. There will be competition dancing, American Indian jewelry, arts and craft vendors, Native food, drum groups, raffle and a alumni Reception.  It is the Committee s hope that this event will give the community a sample of Amerian Indian, history and pride. Grand entry times are 7 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday.  All are invited and welcome to attend this free event. Directions: When you get to Carson City, stay on the main street going south   you will go clear through town and the road becomes a main highway with 3 lanes   you can stay in the left lane until you get to Snyder Avenue(about 3-4 miles from downtown).  Take a left on Snyder (there will be RV Sales on the left and Aloha Liquor on the right).  Continue on Snyder for about a mile and you will see a large rock church building on the left and one on the right. Take the turn to the right (you will see the STEWART FACILITY sign) at the main entrance.
